Leandro Guffanti teaches Saxophone and Clarinet at the Shine School of Music in Barcelona.
Leandro Guffanti was born in 1967 in Buenos Aires. He spent part of his childhood in Cuba, Argentina and Europe. His father gifted him a saxophone at the age of 15, but this foray into music was short lived when his sax was stolen back home in Argentina. Leandro studied to be a master builder and was set to become an architect, when he decided to join his father in Italy and began to study music.
It was in Rome that he really began his music studies, at the popular school of Testaccio. These were decisive years: he discovered jazz, and Massimo Urbani, Bob Berg and Steve Grosman. From this point on, Leandro never let go of his instrument again.
At 23 years old, Leandro joined the Amsterdam Conservatory and decided to perfect his musical training. Leandro spent his time in Europe, playing music and working, learning different languages. He moved to Paris in 1994. Salsa was in full swing. Leandro soon joined the group of Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodriguez, he played with Orlando Poleo, Angà Diaz, Raúl Paz and met Minino Garay. At the same time, he has a career as a sideman alongside Cheb Khaled and Julieta Venegas, two artists who, like him, are at the crossroads of several cultures.
In 2008, he decided to return to Argentina to introduce his children to his country. Reconnecting with his country, he then set up a quartet which played and then recorded in Buenos Aires. It is from this life experience that his first album was born: Once.
Leandro spends his time between France and Spain, teaching and performing. Learn more on his website.
